This is the first trip that Stephy and I took together. Our journey started at 5am (well, 4.30 for me) from Penang to KL. The drive was smooth and Stephy slept most of the way. We reached KL's Central Market (Pasar Seni) around 9.15 and waited a while for her friend so that they could go to Seremban together.
After seeing her off, I headed to the hotel and checked in. Thankfully they had the room available for early check in. After checking in and confirming some last minute details with my friends, I headed off to KLCC to meet with an ex-colleague for lunch and a chat. We had lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant and a pleasant chat in San Francisco Coffee. At around 4.30, I left KLCC to pick up Ju from her workplace before heading back to KLCC for dinner. (Yes, it was a KLCC-day). Dinner was at Al-Marjan with Ju, Ila and Kina whom I haven't seen in half a year. Dinner was nice and while I had planned on catching Iron Man 2 with Ju at 11.30, we didn't go for it as I was feeling tired. We skipped the movie and I headed back to the hotel to rest.
Saturday was a late day for me. I woke up around 11.30 and went to bathe. Around 12, I walked over to KLCC (again) and had my lunch alone at Burger King. After lunch I went to shop for a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates and a Birthday card. It didn't take too long. On the way back to the hotel, I picked up a slice of Jazzy Lemon Cheesecake and a Caramel Cream Frappuccino from Starbucks Coffee.
Back in the hotel, I opened the box of Ferrero Rocher (24 pieces) and used them to form a heart-shape design on the bed. This was part of my surprise for Stephy when she got back. As it had been agreed, this KL trip would be to celebrate her belated birthday too. After I was done and the cheesecake was in the fridge, I relaxed and went online while waiting for her to get back to KL.
I got her sms around 4pm telling me she's on her way back. I drove out and headed to Pasar Seni, fully intending to reach there before her and wait. However, KL's notoriously bad traffic congestion caused me to be stuck in the jam for almost 45 minutes to an hour before I reached there. She had already arrived and waiting for about 10 minutes when I reached her. I skipped the idea of going to Sunway Pyramid before dinner as it was later than originally planned.
We headed back to the hotel and rested up a little. Stephy bathed and changed before we headed out to Tamarind Springs. It was about a 20 minute drive from the hotel and it was already dark when we got there. But the place was beautiful. No picture of mine can do it justice. You truly have to go there to appreciate the view. All the way from the entrance to the dining area, you don't feel like you are in a bustling city but rather a faraway resort. We ordered dinner, mostly from the waiter's recommendation, and ended up with 1 soup and 3 dishes. The fish was huge. That was the only dish that had leftovers. We finished off the shrimps in Tamarind sauce and the mushrooms. The mushrooms were a little too salty to be eaten without the rice but the shrimps and fish were delicious.
After dinner, we took a stroll around the restaurant and adjoining restaurants. Yep, you read right. Tamarind Springs has 2 other restaurants located in the same place. The other 2 are Mandi-Mandi, which specializes in Malay and Thai cuisine and Il-Tempo which is Italian dining. We walked around a little and took some photos. After that, we drove back to the hotel and walked around the corner to Jalan P. Ramlee, a popular area for night activities. We walked past the bars and clubs for a bit before heading back to the hotel. We then had cheesecake for dessert and retired for the night.
Sunday began at 7 when we bathed and headed down to the buffet breakfast provided by the hotel. It was a nice spread and the food quality was as good as before. Impiana KLCC and Spa did not disappoint with their room quality and buffet spread. However, their car park is currently under renovation and you'd have to take their shuttle bus (or walk over) to the KLCC convention center's underground parking. I heard from the staff that the renovation is to include more rooms above the car park. Seems like Impiana hotels is having good business.
Anyways, after breakfast and checking out of the hotel, we headed to Sunway Pyramid for a little shopping. We walked around Sunway Pyramid a little and bought some shirts for her brothers. I got a pair of t-shirts too. Then we had some desserts at Zen. Their Creme Brulee and Apple Crumble are very nice. After that, we walked around a little more before heading to Ikano Power Center. At Ikea, we walked around the showrooms and then headed to their food court to sample their Swedish meatballs. After Ikea, it is a long drive home.
Oh. Stephy drove from the hotel to Sunway and from Sunway to Ikea. I think she wants to be able to say that she has driven to Sunway Pyramid and Ikea before. Our departure from Ikea was around 6.30 and since she wanted to make a stop at her campus in Nibong Tebal, I let her sleep most of the way. We reached her campus around 9.15 and I helped her to gather her things to my car. A short drive later, we were back on Penang Island. We had a quick stop for dinner/supper at a food stall before I dropped her back. I reached home a little past midnight and fell asleep almost immediately.
I was tired but I enjoyed the time together with Stephy. Thanks for making this trip. I know sometimes I get a little jealous of your friends but it is only because I miss you much.
